Dear Parishioners, 

Today's celebration of the Epiphany, the
Three Kings, the manifestation of Jesus to the world
is a beloved feast in the church ... originally
celebrated on January 6, the feast day is now
transferred to a Sunday during the Christmas season
so that more people can understand what Epiphany
is all about ... the story of the 3 kings, the 3
wisemen, the 3 Magi appears only in the Gospel of
St. Matthew ... we know very little about these
popular figures ... names have been given to them ---
Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar ... gifts were
presented to the Baby Jesus --- gold to indicate that
Jesus is king, incense to indicate that Jesus is holy
and myrrh to indicate that his body will be anointed
at this death and resurrection ... these 3 figures were
wisemen searching for the truth, looking for what is
important in life, finding fulfillment in a tiny town in a
manger surrounded by poverty ... are we as wise as
they were?

La celebración de la Epifanía, la fiesta de los
Reyes Magos, la manifestación de Jesús al mundo, es una
fiesta muy querida en la Iglesia... Originalmente celebrada
el 6 de enero, la fiesta se traslada ahora a un domingo
durante el tiempo de Navidad para que más personas
puedan comprender el significado de la Epifanía... La
historia de los tres reyes, los tres sabios, los tres Magos
aparece solo en el Evangelio de San Mateo... Sabemos muy
poco sobre estas figuras populares... Se les han dado
nombres: Melchor, Gaspar y Baltasar... Le ofrecieron
regalos al Niño Jesús: oro para indicar que Jesús es rey,
incienso para indicar que Jesús es santo y mirra para
indicar que su cuerpo sería ungido en su muerte y
resurrección... Estas tres figuras eran sabios que buscaban
la verdad, que buscaban lo importante en la vida,
encontrando la plenitud en un pequeño pueblo, en un
hombre rodeado de pobreza... ¿Somos nosotros tan sabios
como ellos?
